Clarendon House Boiler Upgrade Project
Project Overview:
Following the failure of the 1no Ideal boiler on site UKS had to act fast to remove 1no exiting floor-standing modular boiler and install 2no Hamworthy Upton Boilers in its replacement.
Space-Efficient Design:
The installation of two Hamworthy Upton modular boilers addressed the building’s space limitations. These units are among the most space-efficient on the market, with each boiler requiring less than 1m² of floor space and featuring an advanced aluminium heat exchanger. Their modular design allows for a 5:1 modulation per module, optimising output control, saving on fuel costs, and reducing emissions.
Implementation and Results:
UKS skilfully managed site constraints, including low ceiling clearance and complex flue routes, without disturbing existing structures or incurring asbestos risks. The dual-boiler strategy not only provided redundancy but also satisfied financial constraints, enhancing client satisfaction. Hamworthy’s commissioning of the boilers confirmed the successful integration of this space-saving heating system, offering high efficiency and reliable operation.
Conclusion:
The modern Upton modular boilers, adeptly installed by UKS, demonstrate an effective resolution to spatial and operational challenges in urban office settings, ensuring continuity of comfort and service.
Six Storey Holborn Office – A Compact and Efficient Heating Solution

Hot Water System Enhancement at London Premiership Football Club
CBRE and UK South Services executed a critical hot water system upgrade at a renowned London Premiership football club, transitioning from outdated equipment to Rinnai’s state-of-the-art continuous flow units.
The installation included 10 Rinnai Sensei N series 1600 models, known for their energy-efficient operation and instantaneous hot water delivery. This system was integrated with Nexus scale control and a comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) to ensure immediate access to hot water at controlled temperatures.
For Rinnai Ricky Lewis, Associate Director Corporate Sales, said, “We were able to demonstrate that the Rinnai system, which is Hydrogen blends-ready, can yield financial reductions of nearly 20 % of the running cost, over 30 % of the upfront cost, over 15 % in Carbon footprint, over 75% in space, over 85% in weight compared to heated storage systems.”
This modernisation project significantly improved the stadium’s hot water facilities and is backed by Rinnai’s dedicated commissioning service, ensuring long-term efficiency and warranty support.
Multi-tenanted office block, Central London
UKS rapidly addressed an urgent need for hot water in a multi-tenanted Central London office building following a heater failure, installing a Hamworthy Powerstock calorifier to bypass site-specific flue challenges and deliver a cost-effective solution.
The office block’s sole hot water source, an outdated gas-fired water heater, was condemned due to a split heat exchanger. With hot water being critical for hygiene, especially given the importance of handwashing, a quick solution was imperative.
UKS discovered improper flue installation, lack of a flue liner, and the presence of asbestos. Although considering the use of the existing boiler flue header, the setup could not accommodate a new water heater due to height constraints.
To minimise unexpected costs for the client, who didn’t plan to retain the building long-term, UKS chose to connect a Powerstock PS500 calorifier to the well-functioning boilers, addressing hot water needs and flue issues. The calorifier’s dual coils and an additional 9kw immersion heater ensured efficient heating and a backup hot water supply.
UKS and Hamworthy met the project’s tight deadlines, and UKS successfully restored the building’s hot water service promptly, ensuring tenant satisfaction and safety.
Twickenham School Boiler Replacement
A prominent school in Twickenham, accommodating over 1,300 pupils, faced a significant challenge when one of its main boilers failed due to a compromised heat exchanger.

Royal Hospital Chelsea Hospital Efficient Heating Upgrade
Royal Hospital Chelsea, a historic and prestigious site in London, was facing challenges with its aging heating system. The existing boiler, an Ideal Concord ES200/H, had failed and was beyond repair. The hospital required a reliable and efficient replacement to ensure consistent heating without any points of failure.
Challenges included: The previous single boiler system presented a risk of complete heating failure. The existing pipework was old and could potentially introduce debris into the new system. The installation needed to comply with the hospital’s strict aesthetic and operational policies.
UKS was commissioned to design and implement a modern heating solution. They chose the Worcester Bosch Condens 7000WP boilers for their advanced efficiency and reliability. Two units were installed to eliminate the single point of failure, ensuring continuous operation. A Worcester plate heat exchanger kit was also integrated to protect the new boilers from potential debris. Furthermore, a custom flue system was created and finished in a bespoke black power coating, aligning with the site’s policies and creating a visually appealing result.
The project showcases UKS’s commitment to providing tailored and robust heating solutions for prestigious clients.
Install immersion on Cylinder for hot water solution
A commercial building experienced a critical failure of its boiler system, resulting in a loss of both heating and crucial hot water services, the latter of which was especially problematic for hygiene during a global pandemic.
To address the urgent need for hot water, a rapid and economical solution was implemented. UK South Services Ltd engineered a custom-made access hatch to install a new immersion heater directly into the hot water storage cylinder, bypassing the failed boiler system.
The intervention quickly restored hot water services, ensuring hygiene standards could be maintained. This interim solution provided the client with the necessary time to evaluate long-term heating strategies for the upcoming colder seasons.
