Oracle – Boiler replacement 

Background: 

The existing three boilers on site were due life cycle replacement. The client specified the boiler manufacturer and allowed us to select the right solution for them. The existing boilers were obsolete, unreliable, and overall energy inefficient. 

Solution: 

We opted to install three Remeha Gas 220 ACE boilers in place of the old boilers. Using the existing system design we adapted the new modern boilers into the existing footprint. In summary, replacing old inefficient boilers offers numerous benefits, including improved energy efficiency, cost savings, enhanced reliability, reduced environmental impact, compliance with regulations, and better control and monitoring capabilities. It’s a strategic investment that can yield significant returns in financial savings and operational efficiency. 

Suntory – Chiller replacement 

Client Overview: 

A leading commercial office complex wanted to enhance energy efficiency and operational reliability by upgrading its aging chiller system. With an increasing focus on sustainability and cost savings, they aimed to replace the existing chiller with a modern, high-efficiency model capable of meeting their cooling demands while minimising environmental impact. 

Solution: 

After thorough evaluation and consultation, the project team recommended the installation of a state-of-the-art Daikin manufactured chiller with advanced control systems. The chosen invertor drive chiller boasted high efficiency ratings, leveraging innovative technologies to optimise performance and reduce energy consumption. 

Severn Trent – Boiler replacement 

Client Overview: 

Severn Trent’s initiative to replace boilers across their facilities was aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. The contract had a site which required urgent attention. This particular site had four Hamworthy boilers which had served the test of time and with only one boiler working heading into the winter season, an urgent replacement project was required. 

Solution: 

UKS opted to install six Elco boilers as suitable replacement. The lead time was two days from receipt of client go-ahead. Time was the key driver, and we implemented an efficient strategy in a coordinated manner to deliver a fast installation. The project stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions. 

Syngenta – Boiler replacement 

Client Overview: 

Syngenta, a leading R&D site, embarked on a critical project to replace two large boilers in one of its facilities. The project was part of a planned initiative to improve energy efficiency and reliability, whilst also minimising operational disruption. 

Solution: 

​Due to the scale of the work, the project was divided into two phases, each requiring precise coordination and execution. We opted to install 2 sets of 6 banks of Hamworthy boilers. The original plan was to carry this out over two summer periods. We were able to bring both phases into one summer using crane lift trucks, exceeding client expectations. 

Hitachi – Boiler replacement 

Background: 

The initial boilers, installed in the early 1990s, were characterised by inefficiency and the gradual obsolescence of their components. Recognising the need for an upgrade, we embarked on a partnership with Remeha Boilers to deliver a comprehensive solution that would surpass the performance of the existing system in terms of efficiency and reliability. 

Solution: 

Collaborating closely with Remeha Boilers, we engineered a tailored package to address the inefficiencies and reliability issues inherent in the outdated boilers. By leveraging Remeha’s cutting-edge technology and expertise, we replaced and implemented a modernised boiler system that not only optimised performance but also ensured long-term operational sustainability. 

Strutt & Parker Guildford – Air Conditioning Upgrade  

UKS Cooling was tasked with the decommissioning of outdated equipment and installation of modern air conditioning systems at Strutt & Parker Guildford. 

Within a tight 2.5-week timeframe, UKS Cooling replaced the old systems with 2 new Samsung VRF Systems and 1 DX System, focusing on aesthetics, cost-efficiency, and environmental impact. 

Sam Stageman praised UKS Cooling and Max Curran for their exceptional communication and workmanship, delivering a superior installation under significant time constraints. 

The project was a testament to UKS Cooling’s ability to meet strict deadlines without compromising on quality and client requirements. 

High-Efficiency Hot Water System Upgrade at UK Pharmaceutical Organisation 

UKS successfully completed a significant upgrade at a pharmaceutical organisation, replacing an obsolete boiler with the cutting-edge Rinnai N Series unit, distinguished by its on-demand hot water delivery and hydrogen blend capability. 

Despite space constraints and the need for continuous operation, UKS adeptly decommissioned the old system, infamous for inefficiency and malfunctions, and installed the new Rinnai system, ensuring uninterrupted service and precise temperature control. 

The project significantly boosted system efficiency, meeting stringent safety standards and reducing both operational costs and carbon emissions. The upgrade was finalised with full chlorination to comply with safety and efficiency regulations. 

Expedited Water Heater Installation in a Care Home 

A care home faced an urgent need for a hot water heater replacement, a necessity intensified by the current heightened demand for hot water.  

Thanks to the support from BAXI and the coordination with supply partners, the UK South Services installation and office team swiftly responded to the situation. 

A new water heater was installed promptly, ensuring the care home’s hot water needs were uninterrupted. The project was a success, showcasing the effectiveness of collaborative efforts and the ability to quickly address critical care facility needs. Great appreciation was extended to all parties for their excellent work. 

Clarendon House Boiler Upgrade Project

Following the failure of the 1no Ideal boiler on site UKS had to act fast to remove 1no exiting floor-standing modular boiler and install 2no Hamworthy Upton Boilers in its replacement. 

Space-Efficient Design:  

The installation of two Hamworthy Upton modular boilers addressed the building’s space limitations. These units are among the most space-efficient on the market, with each boiler requiring less than 1m² of floor space and featuring an advanced aluminium heat exchanger. Their modular design allows for a 5:1 modulation per module, optimising output control, saving on fuel costs, and reducing emissions.   

Implementation and Results:  

UKS skilfully managed site constraints, including low ceiling clearance and complex flue routes, without disturbing existing structures or incurring asbestos risks. The dual-boiler strategy not only provided redundancy but also satisfied financial constraints, enhancing client satisfaction. Hamworthy’s commissioning of the boilers confirmed the successful integration of this space-saving heating system, offering high efficiency and reliable operation.  

Conclusion:  

The modern Upton modular boilers, adeptly installed by UKS, demonstrate an effective resolution to spatial and operational challenges in urban office settings, ensuring continuity of comfort and service.  

Six Storey Holborn Office – A Compact and Efficient Heating Solution

Hot Water System Enhancement at London Premiership Football Club 

CBRE and UK South Services executed a critical hot water system upgrade at a renowned London Premiership football club, transitioning from outdated equipment to Rinnai’s state-of-the-art continuous flow units. 

The installation included 10 Rinnai Sensei N series 1600 models, known for their energy-efficient operation and instantaneous hot water delivery. This system was integrated with Nexus scale control and a comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) to ensure immediate access to hot water at controlled temperatures. 

For Rinnai Ricky Lewis, Associate Director Corporate Sales, said, “We were able to demonstrate that the Rinnai system, which is Hydrogen blends-ready, can yield financial reductions of nearly 20 % of the running cost, over 30 % of the upfront cost, over 15 % in Carbon footprint, over 75% in space, over 85% in weight compared to heated storage systems.” 

This modernisation project significantly improved the stadium’s hot water facilities and is backed by Rinnai’s dedicated commissioning service, ensuring long-term efficiency and warranty support. 

Multi-tenanted office block, Central London

UKS rapidly addressed an urgent need for hot water in a multi-tenanted Central London office building following a heater failure, installing a Hamworthy Powerstock calorifier to bypass site-specific flue challenges and deliver a cost-effective solution. 

The office block’s sole hot water source, an outdated gas-fired water heater, was condemned due to a split heat exchanger. With hot water being critical for hygiene, especially given the importance of handwashing, a quick solution was imperative. 

UKS discovered improper flue installation, lack of a flue liner, and the presence of asbestos. Although considering the use of the existing boiler flue header, the setup could not accommodate a new water heater due to height constraints. 

To minimise unexpected costs for the client, who didn’t plan to retain the building long-term, UKS chose to connect a Powerstock PS500 calorifier to the well-functioning boilers, addressing hot water needs and flue issues. The calorifier’s dual coils and an additional 9kw immersion heater ensured efficient heating and a backup hot water supply. 

UKS and Hamworthy met the project’s tight deadlines, and UKS successfully restored the building’s hot water service promptly, ensuring tenant satisfaction and safety. 

Twickenham School Boiler Replacement  

A prominent school in Twickenham, accommodating over 1,300 pupils, faced a significant challenge when one of its main boilers failed due to a compromised heat exchanger. 

The requirement was to promptly replace the faulty boiler with a reliable, efficient, and suitable unit that could meet the demands of the busy educational establishment. 

UKS responded to the call, installing an Ideal Heating Viceroy GTS9 boiler, an apt choice for the school’s needs. The project was supported by Rung Heating Supplies, contributing to the seamless execution of the installation. 

The result was a successful boiler replacement, marked by excellent teamwork and resulting in a fully functional heating system and a satisfied customer. 

Plantation Place – Burner Upgrade  

20 year old Kayanson boiler given a new lease of life

A need arose to replace an outdated and failed Riello burner unit for a client seeking a blend of robustness and operational cost-efficiency. 

To install a new, more compact, and energy-efficient burner that could be adapted to the existing boiler setup. 

A Weishaupt (UK) Ltd Monarch WM-G20, known for its forced draft efficiency and reliability, was selected to replace the old unit. The installation required a custom machined adaption plate to mount the new burner onto the existing boiler infrastructure. 

The Weishaupt burner commenced operation, immediately contributing to cost savings for the client. Its efficiency not only promises reduced energy consumption but also a decrease in operational costs, validating the client’s investment from day one of commissioning. 

Royal Hospital Chelsea Hospital Efficient Heating Upgrade 

Royal Hospital Chelsea, a historic and prestigious site in London, was facing challenges with its aging heating system. The existing boiler, an Ideal Concord ES200/H, had failed and was beyond repair. The hospital required a reliable and efficient replacement to ensure consistent heating without any points of failure. 

Challenges included: The previous single boiler system presented a risk of complete heating failure. The existing pipework was old and could potentially introduce debris into the new system. The installation needed to comply with the hospital’s strict aesthetic and operational policies. 

UKS was commissioned to design and implement a modern heating solution. They chose the Worcester Bosch Condens 7000WP boilers for their advanced efficiency and reliability. Two units were installed to eliminate the single point of failure, ensuring continuous operation. A Worcester plate heat exchanger kit was also integrated to protect the new boilers from potential debris. Furthermore, a custom flue system was created and finished in a bespoke black power coating, aligning with the site’s policies and creating a visually appealing result. 

The project showcases UKS’s commitment to providing tailored and robust heating solutions for prestigious clients. 

Install immersion on Cylinder for hot water solution 

A commercial building experienced a critical failure of its boiler system, resulting in a loss of both heating and crucial hot water services, the latter of which was especially problematic for hygiene during a global pandemic. 

To address the urgent need for hot water, a rapid and economical solution was implemented. UK South Services Ltd engineered a custom-made access hatch to install a new immersion heater directly into the hot water storage cylinder, bypassing the failed boiler system. 

The intervention quickly restored hot water services, ensuring hygiene standards could be maintained. This interim solution provided the client with the necessary time to evaluate long-term heating strategies for the upcoming colder seasons. 

Installation of Wessex ModuMax MK3 Boilers at Surrey Sports Training Ground  

UK South Services Ltd (UKS) addressed the heating needs of a prominent sports training facility in Surrey, which faced spatial constraints within their plant room. 

The existing boilers were equipped with heat exchangers that failed prematurely, necessitating an upgrade. 

UKS installed two Hamworthy Heating Ltd Wessex ModuMax MK3 boilers, which were ideally suited for the limited space. These modular boilers feature stainless steel heat exchangers and come with a 10-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability.  

The fully modulating function of the Wessex ModuMax MK3 boilers now allows for lower fuel consumption and improved load matching, optimising heating efficiency for the client.  

Times Square Shopping Centre Hot Water System Upgrade 

A shopping centre in the outskirts of London sought to modernise its hot water system due to an aged, leaking cylinder. 

The centre installed a Hamworthy Heating Ltd Powerstock PS1,000 glass-lined unit. This model features a twin coil design for efficient heating and the capability for future integration of a 9kw immersion heater. 

To ensure even heat distribution, a water circulation kit was put in place, along with an electrically powered anode for scale prevention.  

The upgrade provides the shopping centre with rapid water heating, improved recovery times, and measures to protect the longevity of the system.
